Outreach

Our outreach program called DANCEOUT! provides scholarships to underserved students and offers free public performances, lectures and community classes in the SF Bay Area.

DANCEOUT! Program

Our greatest impact is to facilitate the development of empathy, tolerance and appreciation for all international communities residing in the Bay Area, through the language of dance.

PDT utilizes dance as a form of youth development, providing opportunities for sustained engagement in the arts, advancing racial equity, while building social capital. Called DANCEOUT!, our outreach program provides scholarships to underserved students, and free public performances, lectures and community classes for Bay Area residents and visitors. Scholarship students are fully integrated in our community. They are most often recruited in elementary school and remain in our program through high school. We also mentor these students outside of the studio, monitoring their academic trajectory and providing academic support. In doing so, we create life paths through dance. Forty-five percent of our DANCEOUT! students are the first in their families to attend a university. Ninety-nine percent of our DANCEOUT! graduates pursue a college education. We’re working towards re-establishing our ratio of 50 percent scholarship and 50 percent tuition-paying students.

PPAF annually sponsors “Children’s Day at the San Francisco War Memorial Opera House.” Featuring PDT’s multi-generational cast, performing excerpts from our award-winning, “Dancing Across Cultures.” Performances are fully narrated and PDT offers teachers a study guide to further enhance their students’ learning.
